The Volitan project is the double winner of IDA 2007 (international design award)
for best nautical boat of the year and the best transportation of the year.

Windows to technology; these windows will be found throughout the vessel and will give the visitor a view and explanations on how a particular technology functions. Here are a few examples, watch electricity being generated by the solar hulls and decks, Learn how the wind turbines work, another window will show how Hydrogen is made "on demand" from the ocean water on which we float. See how the fuel cells system works. Watch the electric motors for propulsion as they are working. Follow the rainwater caught and how it is used, watch gray water being recycled for general use. View the desalination plant. With many other windows.

The E.S.P catamaran becomes a floating exhibition and educational platform for sustainable functionality. To be showcases world wide.

You can imagine there will be many challenges to overcome such as;
What is the best and most environmental friendly way to build this boat?
How to design and build the hulls to incorporate photovoltaic cells,
What kind of rig will offer the best opportunities for solar power generating and speed under sail.
How to incorporate wind generators and built them into the design of the vessel.
Design multiple banks of underwater electrical generators than can be engaged and disengaged on demand pending on boat speed while underway.
What kind of electrical engines to use for propulsion?
Creating Hydrogen on demand from salt water......then create onboard safe Hydrogen storage..... something that has never been done out at sea.
Storage of electricity will require the most efficient and the latest technology in batteries.
How about the bottom paint.....which paint is functional and also does no harm to the environment?

On the domestic front there are also many new ideas to be developed and demonstrated.
L E D interior and exterior lighting systems.
What kind of energy to use for cooking and baking facilities....possibly Hydrogen ?
Create onboard organic vegetable production.
How to deal with garbage.......collect recyclables......compost organic materials.......trash compacted to be deposited on shore?
Develop enviro pro solutions for human waste.
Heating and refrigeration systems etc.

As you can see during the course of this demonstration project there will be many new ideas that need to be developed and be made practical.

All research and hand's on experience gained will be published trough internet, multimedia, print, seminars, documentaries, etc and will be available to anyone and any organization world wide, free of charge.
